Fiesta gardens, a national historic place, continues to play an important role in Austin’s riverfront
history. Co’design is collaborating with Clayton & Little Architects and the City of Austin PARD to
rehabilitate the historic buildings and grounds in a way that expands and upgrades the site’s potential as
a cherished venue for community events.
First opened in 1966, Fiesta gardens was conceived as a
vibrant tourist attraction and community gathering location for waterfront festivals. Over time,
however, the facility has shown some wear and tear. The rehabilitation effort includes additional
facilities for wedding events, upgraded indoor dining areas, improved terraces with views toward the
Lady Bird Lake, invasive species management along riverbanks, reinvigorated garden spaces, and
improved circulation connectivity to adjacent parks. This exciting project is expected to launch
construction in 2025.
