It’s about SCIENCE! Co’design was proud to collaborate with Overland Partners Architects on a new
STEM academic center at Alamo Colleges’ Northwest Vista Campus in San Antonio.
The facility has
become an energetic hub for student learning and gathering. The center’s design highlights view
corridors, preserves existing natural features, and applies multiple water conservation strategies.
Central to the landscape and architectural design was preserving a grove of Live Oaks that are now a
signature feature. Oriented to take advantage of prevailing breezes, the building and exterior seating
terraces surround the grove and provide shaded areas for gathering.
The landscape design also serves as
a natural storm water filtration system to minimize site erosion and to slow run‐off toward the central
lake/detention pond. To promote water conservation, the plant palette is a mix of native and adapted
plant species and irrigation ties into the campus’s larger water reuse system.
