As part of a renovation to the Geology Building, Co’design collaborated with McKinney York Architects to create an exterior courtyard fronting UT's East Mall.

The new courtyard is now a central gathering space for the geosciences academic community. Instrumental to the success of the courtyard was preserving the existing Live Oaks lining the East Mall–signature features of UT’s Campus. To ensure their overall health, Co’design worked closely with the project team to develop hardscape, planting, and irrigation solutions that minimize impact on the trees’ root systems. The courtyard terrace is supported by a thin permeable paving system that allows for oxygen and water flow to tree roots.
