Back when people traveled frequently by passenger rail, the train depot and neighboring park in Wharton, Texas, were some of the most vital areas in town. Over time, as train travel diminished, the depot and park became run down and neglected.
To restore community pride in this historic treasure, the City of Wharton received federal grant money to transform the depot into a museum and commuter hub and to restore the park to its original design.Today, it’s the site of town festivals and community gatherings.
